overview

We’ll cover silent grids, soft frosts, muslins, magic cloth, and a few others. I’ll also show you how much light loss you get from each of these so you can use those metrics for your own calculations.

First things first though, let me walk you through the setup of what we’ve got going on here today. I’ve got an Aputure 600d Pro with an F10 Fresnel and barn doors on a combo stand for the key light. The reason I’m using the fresnel and barn doors is so I can cut the light from spilling onto anywhere but the 6×6 frame so we get a really good understanding of what that particular rag is doing without any light bouncing around from the studio here. I’ve got the Chimaera lighting 6×6 frame setup in the middle, and the whole setup is giving me a subtle rembrandt lighting so we can really see how each of the rags diffuses this light.
