I couldn’t imagine growing a platform and not using it to speak out on moral issues.
summary
“let’s learn lighting” isn’t just a cute alliterative phrase, it’s the directive behind the actions I take as “the Granite Gaffer”.
I attempt to pass off the knowledge I’ve gained so that anyone can learn these techniques and realize their creative passions, or be empowered to start a whole career. You learn as I learn, and we get to grow together.
Got a shitty 9-5 you’re trying to escape like I once was? Maybe you don’t have a direction in life at all, or maybe you just love lighting and you want to learn more about your new hobby. It doesn’t matter to me, I’m stoked that you’re interested in learning about lighting.
It is impossible to be curious about creative expression when you’re wondering if your water is safe to drink. If you don’t know when your next meal is coming, if you don’t have a roof over your head.
You can’t learn lighting if your basic needs aren’t met, and what’s the point of finding my own place in life if I’m not going to use that position to help others find theirs?

Aaaaaaanyway, an Aputure 1200d through 8×8 magic cloth gives us some nice shape from right to left across the talent at the table, while also serving as the key light for the main subject.
A 4′ infinibar is popped over the table to simulate an overhead light at an office, and control the ratio on the table talent.
A kelvin epos 300 is set to 3200K and acts as a rim light for the main subject, motivated by the incandescent practical in the floor lamp.
