Do you know how to recreate the sun when it goes down?

On day 2 of shooting last week, we hoped to finished all of our day scenes before the sun left us but that didn’t end up being the case.

In order to recreate the big soft fill that was coming in through the garage door from the sun, I pulled out the trusty @aputure.lighting 600d. The fresnel helped push the light in the direct I wanted it to without spilling all over the side of the office.

A 6×6 half soft frost was clipped to the inside to soften up the edges on the talent a bit while still leaving the falloff feeling natural.

A 2×4 beadboard on the hood of the car helped to fill in the shadow side of our talent.

The TV out the drivers side door was showing plates that our DP filmed out his own car to replicate the movement you’d see if we were actually driving.

That’s it! This was a pretty easy daylight scene to replicate. One big source like the sun, some bouncing, and a lot of negative fill for shape!
