Let’s learn to light an office scene!
summary
This breakdown was part of a tech commercial which required 6 setups over the course of the day. So not only did we need to have a dapper looking image for our software-oriented client, but it needed to be setup efficiently as well to conserve time.
The fastest way I’ve found to get a soft source is to make a book light using a white wall, so I did that twice in this setup!
The key for this shot was an Aputure 600d Pro bounced through an 8×8 magic cloth. This gave us a soft, directionless lighting on the talent we were looking for.
A Kelvin EPOS 300 bounced through a Grip House checkerboard muslin helps lift the shadow side.

A double net is doubled over and taped to the wall on the key side to reduce the sourciness of the key on said wall. Without it you’d see the right side of the image much be much brighter.
An Aputure Infinibar PB12 is boomed in behind the talent for a little separation from the background.
And lastly, some incandescent practicals on 300W dimmers help sell a warm office environment AND give motivation for the hair light.
