diagram: nehemiah’s restoration – cinematic on-location interview

The nonprofit this gentleman runs is bringing a medical center to an area of Kenya with a doctor to patient ratio of 1:16,000. By comparison that ratio in the US is 1:300.

It’s playing a small part in stories like these that make this job so rewarding in ways I never would have thought when I first began in film.

What story can I help you light today?

summary

Key: An Aputure 1200d into ultrabounce through bleached muslin. I love this booklight setup, it’s a great way to get a large source in a small footprint.

Shadow: a beadboard bounce was positioned to the right of talent to provide the ratio we were looking for.

Clarity: two quasar double rainbows provide the kiss on the cheek and highlights to the hair. Make sure to avoid lighting the nose when lighting the cheek, and position this one opposite from the key.

Background: assorted aputure, amaran, and quasars help fill in the background, and absolutely every piece of negative fill in my kit was used to chop out all the emergency lights we couldn’t turn off.
